We have our first coaching casualty of the 2024 season as after 3 seasons and 5 games, the New York Jets have fired Head Coach Robert Saleh just 2 days after the Jets lost 23-17 in London against the (now) 5-0 Minnesota Vikings.
Saleh's had a 20-36 record in New York, a tenure that will be remember for being defensively sound but offensively inept. After drafting BYU QB Zach Wilson with the 2nd overall pick in 2021, the Jets have had seemingly nothing but drama at the position. Despite being the 2nd overall pick, Zach Wilson struggled to ever get going in the NFL, causing the Jets to act.

Despite an 11-23 record in his first two seasons, the Michigan born man was given a boost of confidence when the Jets went all-out and brought in future Hall of Fame Quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Only for Rodgers to get injured on the first possession of the season and miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury. Zach Wilson was once again and the Jets finished the season 7-10.
Seemingly in the hot seat throughout the 2024 off-season, it seemed to be a consensus around the league that the Jets' defense being #1 in the NFL in 2023 and the misfortune on offense was enough to buy their HC some time to get things right. After all, it's not his fault their QB1 got injured before the offense got going and they had to throw away the offensive plan for the whole year, right?
Well, after a 2-3 start with the offense still struggling despite having a healthy Aaron Rodgers behind Center, the final straw was placed on the camel's back in London and the back broke.
As it stands, Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over HC duties in the interim basis.
What's next for Robert Saleh? One thing we do know about the man. he knows defense. He built the 49ers' defense to be one of the best in the league and the Jets defense has generally been formidable since Saleh took over - again, in 2023 they ranked #1 in the entire NFL according to PFF stats. While he may not get too many looks 5 games into the season, someone will be VERY lucky to have him as DC again.
